A company which I absolutely lust over invited me to their grand opening of their newest boutique at the mall in King of Prussia, PA. Needless to say I was all giddy and enthused I had a whole two weeks of waiting before I could visit. Here is the 411 on MAKE UP FOR EVER:
- MAKE UP FOR EVER was created in 1984, in Paris by Dany Sanz who was originally a sculptor and a painter.
- They came to the US in 1995 and are exclusively sold at Sephora.
- The face & body liquid foundation and aqua eyes were originally created for the French water ballet performers. (Let’s all thank them!)
- They have over 1,600 products in practically every color including special FX items.
The King of Prussia store looks like a backstage, very industrial with gray brick wall accents on white walls and exposed wood beams. They have makeup studio stations and lighting set up for lessons. It truly feels like you are backstage!
They provide lessons and also have a HD video recording studio that you can have your step by step lesson recorded and practice with it at home. All of the artists are trained to apply the makeup from behind the person so they are never in the way of the video and you can take home the cutest USB you’ve ever had. (It’s in the shape of a lipstick container)
In case you thought, oh that’s all? There is more. They recently opened up a school in New York City, the MAKE UP FOR EVER Academy. The first school was created in Paris in 2002. They even have online classes that are some FREE via skillshare.com. Every instructor is trained by Dany Sanz personally and the classes range anywhere from 7 to 20 weeks specializing in Beauty and Fashion, Television and Film or Stage and Artistic. The academy frequently brings in big named artists working in various aspects of industry so the students not only get a diverse set of skills but the connections to back their skills up! Sounds like a dream school for someone who wants to be in the field.
MAKE UP FOR EVER “allows make-up artists to unleash their imagination and bring the fashion and theater world to new heights.” As stated in their press release.
